Agricultural Urbanism

AU Design Strategies

Industrial Areas

Transition zones result when one type of zone meets another. These areas require special consideration and must signal to people the shift from one use to another while meeting the requirements of each adjacent zone. The transitions between agriculture and urbanism must successfully stitch together these uses by creating an active edge. An active edge has its own set of uses and integrates surrounding uses by designing connectivity, programming, and architectural detail that facilitates a dialogue between the agricultural and the urban.
