Sustainable Urban+Regional Food Systems

Sustainable Food Cities
Sustainable food cities (SFCs), are cities that apply the principles and practices of sustainable urban and regional food systems to all aspects of city policy, programs, planning, infrastructure, culture and design. Ideally, these elements would be strategically integrated into a single plan that may address areas such as:- Food precincts,
- Neighbourhood or city scale composting,
- Institutional food procurement,
- Urban agriculture, including but not limited to community gardens,
- Use of public spaces for growing and celebrating food,
- Land-uses for sustainable food systems such as food processing areas, liquor licenses for small operators, and farmers markets, among others,
- Policy and design guidelines to support integrating food and agriculture into new and retro-fitted development.
- Infill and intensification initiatives to accommodate as much growth as possible within existing built areas.
- Others.
