Agricultural Urbanism

AU Basics

Supporting Elements - Education and Collaboration

Education is central to making sense of our food system. Education and outreach to decision makers, planners, designers, architects, landscape architects, developers as well as civil society is key to agricultural urbanism. Further, the education and training for the new generation of farmers is essential to sustainable food systems. Types of education that should be considered in an AU project are:
  • Community education on healthy eating and on local foods that connects people to their local farmers
  • Academic training in sustainable horticulture
  • Workshops for municipal staff on what AU is and how to start planning for sustainable food systems
  • Collaboration among various community stakeholders will also keep AU moving towards better community planning and design.
