Food Precinct - Architectural and Landscape Character

One of the most important aspects of a precinct to the character of a community is that is visibly and physically focused on its theme – and that means that buildings and the public realm or landscape visibly demonstrate elements and character associated with the precinct uses. It is important not to reflect the precinct theme in a simplistic “Disneyland” manner, however the authentic activities and local or historical architecture of this activity type need to be reflected in the buildings, street designs, sidewalks, plazas, parks, etc – the precinct needs to look a little different than the rest of the community. For a food precinct, this principle draws forth a very rich history of agricultural and food related spaces and architecture that can be interpreted in many ways.
